Top Ranked Bloomsburg Field Hockey Upset by Shippensburg

BLOOMSBURG- The top-ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey team lost for the first time this season by a score of 3-2 to fourth-ranked Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon. It's the first loss for the Huskies since October 27th 2007, when the Huskies fell to IUP in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title game.
Bloomsburg took a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the first period when Jamie Vanartsdalen
(Huntingdon Valley/Lower Moreland) scored 10 minutes in to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 advantage. From there, Shippensburg's Mariah Wooters and Kim Davies rattled off three consecutive goals to give Shippensburg a 3-1 lead just three minutes into the second period.
Bloomsburg attempted to rally as Brieanne Tobin (Perkasie/Pennridge) scored with 1:36 remaining in the game, but it was not enough.
Allison Ziants (Winfield/Selinsgrove) led the way in goal with two saves for the Huskies. With the loss, Bloomsburg falls to 7-1 on the season.
The Huskies will travel to Kutztown on Wednesday for a noon start.
